Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for an assigned group of patients and provide direct patient care.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
  • Monitor and record changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
  • Assist physicians during patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
  • Obtain and monitor patients’ physiological data and respond appropriately to clinical changes.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous (IV) infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver safe, competent, and compassionate patient care in neonatal and pediatric settings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with patients’ families regarding care plans, treatment progress, and discharge instructions.
  • Educate patients’ families on hospital procedures and care requirements.
  • Coordinate referrals for patient care needs with appropriate healthcare personnel.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks to support staff while ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Float to all applicable areas within the children’s hospital based on operational needs. 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program. 

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
  • NICU experience required.
  • Experience working in a children’s hospital preferred.
  • Level IV NICU experience highly preferred. 

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Oklahoma Nursing License or current Multistate Compact RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification through the American Heart Association. 

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services.
  • Strong clinical judgment and patient care skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with healthcare staff and patients’ families.
  • Ability to respond effectively to diverse cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in high-acuity environments. 

Schedule & Shift

  • Shift: Nights
  • Schedule Notes:
    • Must have NICU experience.
    • Must be able to float to all areas within the children’s hospital.
    • Level IV NICU experience is highly preferred. 

Work Environment

  • Hospital/Children’s Hospital clinical setting.
  • May require standing, walking, lifting, and responding quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and additional shifts as needed.
