ICU (Intensive Care Unit) 1 year exp required
Required Certifications
ACLS, BLS Certification, NIHSS, TNCC RNWY/compact
Floating
- Required to float to Med-Surg
- Possible float to ED if experienced
🏥 Unit Overview
- Bed count: 15-bed ICU
- Patient ratio: 1:2 standard, with some 1:1 assignments
- Shift times: 0645–1915 (be on unit and ready by 0645)
- Daily routine: Morning huddle followed by report
📋 Required Credentials
Must be completed prior to start:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- TNCC
🧑⚕️ Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
- No pediatrics
- Sepsis
- COVID
- Trauma
- CABG (no fresh post-op travelers)
- Respiratory failure
- Overdose
- ETOH withdrawal
- Suicidal ideation (SI)
- Post-op patients
- Advanced support cases:
- Swan-Ganz (SWAN)
- IABP
- Ventricle assist devices
- STEMI (TR band / femoral access)
🛠️ Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 1 year recent ICU experience (must be current recent ICU, not historical)
- Epic experience required
- Ventilator & BiPAP troubleshooting essential
- Comfortable with high-acuity critical care
💉 Medications / Drips
- RN must titrate drips
- Includes:
- Sedation
- Vasopressors
- Anti-arrhythmics
- Paralytics
- All other critical care infusions
👥 Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse present 24/7 (does NOT take patients)
- 1 CNA per shift
- Intensivist:
- On-site 7a–7p
- On-call nights
- Hospitalist: 24/7 in-house
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 available (may be unit-based depending on vent volume)
- Tele techs available; nurses still read strips
📡 Equipment
- Ventilators
- BiPAP / CPAP
- High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Continuous cardiac monitoring
🗓️ Scheduling / Expectations
- Block scheduling not guaranteed
- Scheduler creates schedule
- Must be flexible for needs, holidays, and occasional standby/call (low census)
- Every other weekend required
👕 Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
