Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Position Overview

McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital is seeking an experienced Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse to join its Cardiovascular Unit (CVU). This high-acuity unit provides specialized care for complex cardiac patients, including post-procedural and progressive care cases.

The CVU is a nationally recognized cardiovascular center managing thousands of cardiac patients annually, including those undergoing advanced interventions such as stent placements, TAVR, MitraClip, pacemakers, and post–open heart surgery recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing care for cardiovascular stepdown and progressive care patients
  • Monitor and manage post-cardiac procedure patients including PCI, TAVR, and electrophysiology cases
  • Assess, interpret, and respond to cardiac rhythms and EKG changes
  • Deliver patient-centered care using clinical judgment and evidence-based practice
  • Manage congestive heart failure, post-op cardiac surgery, and complex cardiac conditions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including cardiology, surgery, and critical care providers
  • Ensure safe transitions of care and patient education for discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to hospital protocols and safety standards
  • Float to similar units as needed based on staffing demands

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 1+ year Stepdown/Progressive Care experience (required)
  • Strong cardiac nursing experience required
  • Travel nursing experience required
  • Must be comfortable floating to similar units

Clinical Skills

  • Strong EKG interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
  • Experience with high-acuity cardiovascular patients
  • Ability to manage post-cardiac procedure care

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Michigan RN License
  • BLS Certification (AHA)
  • ACLS Certification (AHA)

Schedule Details

  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 12-hour shifts
  • 36 hours guaranteed per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Possible on-call requirement
  • 8-week contract assignment
