MedSurg RN Assignment Details

• 50-mile radius rule applies for all travelers

Unit Details:
• 30 private beds with an average census of 20
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-6
• Common patient diagnoses: Dementia, post-surgical, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID patients

Required Certifications:
• BLS
• NIHSS

Preferred Experience:
• Chest tubes
• Pain management
• TPN
• CBI
• Wound care
• Charge nurse experience preferred but not required

Additional Unit Information:
• No titratable drips required
• Charge nurse takes patients; travelers may work charge if experienced
• Typically 2-3 nurse aides on the unit
• CPAP equipment available with RT managing respiratory support
• Telemetry on the floor with monitor techs reading telemetry

Scheduling:
• 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
• No self-scheduling, but block scheduling accommodations are considered when possible
• Travelers primarily fill scheduling gaps

Weekend/Holiday Requirements:
• Generally every 3rd weekend, with flexibility requested based on unit needs
• Every 3rd holiday; travelers should expect to work one winter holiday

Call/Floating:
• No call requirement
• May float to PCU for MedSurg overflow or low-acuity PCU patients

Dress Code & Orientation:
• Any solid-color scrubs (no patterns/designs)
• Orientation includes 2 days of nursing orientation and 1 unit-specific floor day
