Registered Nurse – ER Holding (Travel/Contract)

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–6:45)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide care for patients admitted and waiting in the Emergency Department (ED) on bed availability, either in a designated area or possibly hallway.
  • May occasionally float to acute care areas if no patients are boarded.
  • Work every other weekend and some holidays.
  • Position is Level I Emergency Department.
  • Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required.
  • Block scheduling accommodations are possible.
  • Local candidates within a 25-mile radius may be considered if needed.
  • Pending licenses are not accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department (ED), including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Experience in acute care settings
  • Experience in Med Surg and Telemetry units

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or per contract renewal.
  • State nursing license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required.
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as applicable.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months required.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen with alcohol test within 1 year of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declination form required if declined)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGOLD or Tspot within 3 months or 2 PPDs)
    • TB questionnaire annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if titer low
    • Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declinations accepted only under specific circumstances)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox; boosters or declination if negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis A (required for ED staff)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1–Mar 31) or approved exemption with masking requirement if exempt
  • Facility-specific forms including fit testing and parking forms must be completed.
  • Recent photo for badge required (plain background, shoulders up, no filters).
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions.
  • Employment application/resume and skills checklist (updated annually) required.
  • Performance and internal evaluations required if previously employed at the facility.
