RN - Psych - 13-Week Travel Contract

Facility Overview

• Winston-Salem, NC 27157.
• 885-bed Level I Trauma Center, Academic Teaching Hospital, Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center.

Unit Details

• 24 beds (census 18-20/day).
• Patient Ratios: 1:6 (RN).
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), 3 days/week (36 hours). Schedule cycles every 6 weeks.
• Scrubs: Royal Blue. Parking: Free employee parking.

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum: 2 years Psych nursing (first-time travelers accepted).
• Patient Types/Diagnoses: Adults 18+ (Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depression, Suicidal Ideation). Open day room unit; may include postpartum patients with psych comorbidities (not a detox center).
• Required Skills: Direct/indirect patient care; strong de-escalation, interpersonal/communication skills; physical/medical restraints; medication passes; documentation. Comfort running groups (preferred). Tolerate moderate-high stress.
• Licenses/Certs: NC (or compact) RN license, BLS, CPI.

Scheduling

• Weekend Rotation: Every other.
• On-Call: None.
• Holidays: Travelers work 75%.
• Floating: Yes, to Peds Behavioral Health.

Department Support

• CNA, MHT (patient care per RN/treatment plan, therapeutic relationships).
• Receptionist/HUC, Charge nurse.
• Phlebotomy, Rapid Response Team (resource), RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist 24/7.
• Unit Culture: Patient-centered, highly dependable, strong teamwork.

Technology/Equipment

• EMR: Encompass/Epic.
• IV Pump: Alaris.
• Med Dispensing: Omnicell.
• Unit-Specific: Seclusion room, restraint bed/chair, breast pumps, BiPAP (for comorbidities).

Orientation

• NEO (facility).
• 2 days departmental.
