JOB DESCRIPTION:
RN - ED
Shift: 12hr Night Shift - 36
Shift Information: 1900-0700
On Call, Call Back Requirements: none
Weekend Rotation: EOW
Holiday Requirements: 75% of holidays required
Floating Requirements: Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED within Region, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)

o 874 Licensed beds
o Level I Trauma
o Teaching Hospital
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center
o Magnet Designated
o Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
o Beds: 43 ED Beds and 20 boarding beds
o Minimum Years of Experience required: ED RN: 2 years ED exp (Resource Team)
o Will you accept a first-time traveler: Not preferred but will consider (Resource Team)
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o *Travelers will most often be hired as Med/Tele RN to cover ED Holds*
o Trauma level 1 – GSW, Stabbing, MVA, Falls, Stroke, Heart Failure, Chest pain, patient requiring fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, Cardiac Cath pre, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, mental health, Respiratory illnesses, GI Disorders and infections, Liver Failure, AKI/CKD
Patient Ratios:
o *Travelers will most often be hired as Med/Tele RN to cover ED Holds*
o RN: 1:5 max (acuity dependent)
o CNA: 1:7
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
o ED RN: Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI; Preferred: TNCC
Skills required:
o ED RN: Trauma experience, Stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, critical care drips, blood administration, etc.
Support within the Department:
o CNA – ratios vary
o Receptionist/HUC
o Charge nurse, 24/7 – may or may not have patients
o Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws only
o IV/VAT Team
o Resource Nurse – as available
o RT, 24/7
o Hospitalist, 24/7
o Intensivist, 24/7
o Telemetry monitoring/tech: No monitoring tech; nurses read monitors and respond
Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Phillips
Floating:
o Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
o Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED within Region, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)
o If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every other
o No call for travelers
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
