Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Job Description
 

Position Overview:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for providing respiratory care services, pulmonary procedures, emergency response support, and patient monitoring to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The therapist collaborates with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver safe and effective respiratory therapy services.

This is a night-shift assignment requiring the ability to work 3x12-hour shifts in a fast-paced acute care environment.

  • Shift: Nights | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Open Positions: 1

  • Experience Required: 2+ Years Recent RRT Experience
  • Local Rate may differ.
  • On-Call Requirement: No 

 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Review and confirm physician orders for respiratory therapy treatments and procedures.
  • Assess patient condition and determine appropriateness of respiratory interventions.
  • Monitor patient response to therapy and document findings accurately in the medical record.
  • Notify physicians, nurses, and healthcare staff regarding unusual patient reactions or concerns.
  • Perform respiratory and pulmonary procedures according to departmental protocols and policies.
  • Administer medical gases, aerosol medications, and respiratory treatments.
  • Participate in emergency response situations and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when required.
  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain respiratory care equipment.
  • Ensure proper stocking and management of respiratory supplies and medications.
  • Complete accurate billing documentation for respiratory services provided. 

Patient Care & Communication

  • Explain treatment procedures and therapies to patients and families.
  • Address patient questions and concerns with professionalism and compassion.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Promote positive patient experiences and customer satisfaction. 

Team Collaboration & Quality Improvement

  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care teams.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals.
  • Assist with development and improvement of respiratory care policies and procedures.
  • Participate in educational programs for staff, students, patients, and community members.
  • Attend in-services, training sessions, meetings, and conferences to maintain clinical competency. 

 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an AMA or CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program. 

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) License.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at submission. 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Registered Respiratory Therapist experience required.
  • Previous acute care or hospital respiratory therapy experience preferred.

  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care. 

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, and move respiratory equipment.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases and hospital environments.
  • Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
