Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. This role supports unit activities to ensure high-quality patient care and functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions

1. Apply sterile and aseptic techniques with expertise in human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instrumentation; function with working knowledge of AORN standards.
2. Inspect and maintain surgical items for packaging integrity, sterility, and expiration; ensure safe operating room conditions and equipment functionality.
3. Monitor sterile field for contamination or interference; initiate corrective action under supervision.
4. Demonstrate competency or progress toward competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
5. Contribute flexibly to individualized, ongoing patient care within scope of practice.
6. Communicate effectively with perioperative team; fully participate in Time Out Process, Briefings, and Debriefings.
7. Assist with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation.
8. Maintain professional behavior and stay current with new technologies, procedures, and equipment.
9. Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
10. Model Just Culture principles and maintain HIPAA compliance.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• License: Surgical Technologist license in the state of Colorado (required).
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association.
• Technical Skills:
  • Computer literacy to complete online learning, forms, and policies within 90 days.
  • Ability to access online benefits enrollment and job-specific competencies.
