JOB DESCRIPTION
RN - ED

● About Facility:
o 1 Medical Center Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC 27157
o 885 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
o Chest Pain Center
o Burn Center
o Stroke Center
● Unit Information:
o Beds: 55 horizontal, 6 vertical, 15 observation, 5 BH holding
▪ Census? Average patients/day? 200-220
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? Only if they have 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience
● Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Unit is currently under renovation – 2nd of 3 phases is complete
o Will receive many air flights in – will have 2 fixed wind helicopter pads post renovation
o Regional Trauma Center – will see all ED patients
▪ Travelers will not likely be utilized in Trauma bays during initial contracts
▪ Very fast paced unit
o Client 1,2,3,4,5 Trauma/Stroke/STEMI/Burn, including but not limited to:
▪ GSWs, stabbings multi trauma, MVC, MI, CVA, hypothermia, drownings, falls, conscious sedations, defibrillating, cardiac arrest/respiratory arrest, sexual assault, overdoses
▪ Psychosis, Pacing, Vent management, Blunt trauma
● Patient Ratios:
o RN: 3:1, 4:1, 5:1. 6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity
o LPN: 4:1/5:1/6:1 based on clinical area worked or acuity
● Required Licensure & Certifications:
o RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC (Resource Team Requirements)
● Skills required:
o Discussed during interview
o As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
o Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum
● Support within the Department:
o ED Tech: ADLs, vital signs, I/O cath, foley placement, phlebotomy
o Unit Secretary
o Charge nurse
o 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists
o Paramedic Staff
o Phlebotomy: N/A – ED Tech can perform phlebotomy
o IV/VAT Team? N/A
o Resource Nurse - Pod leaders
o RT 24/7
o Hospitalist 24/7
o Intensivist 24/7
o SANE Quality Coordinator
o Telemetry monitoring/no Tech
● Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: Epic
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicell
o Monitors: Phillips
o Unit specific equipment: Client Ultrasounds for point of care. Client EKG machines
● Floating: If yes, where?
o Could float to the ED Transition Care Unit
● Orientation (facility and unit):
o NEO
o 2 days departmental
● Scheduling:
o Weekend rotation: every other
o No call required
o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
o RTO: Manager approval
o Shift time: 1930-0730
o Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
