Position Details
- Position: RN – Med Tele
- Unit: Medical Telemetry
- Shift Length: 12 Hours
- Shift Times: 5:00PM – 5:00 AM
- Orientation: 1 x 12-hour unit-specific orientation shift
- Charting System: EPIC
- Unit Size: 31 Beds
Important Submission Requirements
- Driver’s License required for submission
- Active Illinois RN License required at time of submission
- EPIC experience required
- Travel experience preferred
- Local candidates accepted (must live more than 20 miles from facility)
Unit Overview
This telemetry-focused medical unit cares for a broad range of adult acute care patients with cardiac and medical conditions. Nurses are expected to independently manage telemetry monitoring and provide high-quality patient-centered care.
Common Patient Diagnoses
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Stroke patients
- Chest pain
- Diabetes complications
- Pneumonia (PN)
- COPD
- Detox patients
- Underlying cardiac conditions
- Cardiac catheterization recovery patients
Required Experience & Skills
- Telemetry experience required
- Experience with:
- Radial band recoveries
- Femoral cath recoveries
- Ability to interpret and monitor telemetry rhythms
- Strong acute care nursing assessment skills
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to Med Tele patients
- Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms
- Administer medications and monitor treatment responses
- Manage set-rate drips including:
- Lasix
- Heparin
- Bumex
- Protonix
- Octreotide
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams
- Float to medical floors or step-down units to care for telemetry-level patients as needed
Staffing & Support
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5–6
- CNA support ratio: 1:10–12
- Centralized telemetry tech support available
- RNs responsible for reading telemetry strips
- Team Lead available during day shifts
- Night/weekend charge nurses may take patient assignments
Scheduling & Requirements
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No call or standby requirement
- Scheduling accommodations considered based on staffing needs
Equipment & Respiratory Support
- CPAP/BiPAP support for intermittent respiratory needs
Dress Code
- Caribbean-colored scrubs required
Required Certifications
- BLS Certification required
