Charting System: Allscripts
Unit Notes: Must have experience in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center and have worked in hospitals with 300+ beds.
Unit Information
- Unit: ICU – 2nd Floor (MICU with some SICU)
- # of Beds: 16
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:2
Required Certifications
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
Common Diagnoses / Types of Patients
- CRRT (Prismaflex)
- Rotaprone
- TTM – Arctic Sun
- Mass transfusions
- Train of four / frequent paralytics
- ECMO at times
- 24-hour EEG monitoring
- EVD
- LP drain
- Neurosurgery
- MTP
- Trauma cases:
- Drownings
- Tractor rollovers
- Fractures
- MVAs
- Spinal injuries
- Sepsis
- DKA
- Surgical recoveries
- COVID
- Post-heart cath patients (may pull sheaths)
- SI patients
- Bedside procedures:
- Trachs
- Chest tube insertions
- Bronchs
- Arterial line insertions
- Organ recovery/procurement only (no transplants performed onsite)
Experience / Must-Have Skills
- CRRT experience highly preferred
- Prefer experience pulling sheaths
- Level II Trauma experience or higher required
Drip Management
- RNs required to titrate drips: Yes
Common Titratable / Set Rate Drips
- Precedex
- Pressors
- Antiarrhythmics
- Sedation drips
- Standard ICU drips
Charge Nurse / House Supervisor
- Charge nurse available
- Day shift charge usually a Blessing staff nurse
- Nights may utilize house supervisor
- Charge nurse takes smaller assignment to assist staff
Support Staff
- Nurse aides available on unit
- RT assigned to ICU/PCU 24/7
- Intensivist/Hospitalist coverage 24/7 (MD & NP)
Respiratory Equipment
- All respiratory equipment available:
- Vents
- CPAP
- BiPAP
- etc.
Telemetry / Monitoring
- Tele monitor tech monitors patients
- RNs required to interpret strips
- Monitor system: Draeger
Scheduling
- 3x12-hour shifts starting at 0700
- No guaranteed block scheduling
- Scheduling requests discussed with leadership
- Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
Weekend Requirements
- Every other weekend
- Saturday & Sunday for both shifts
Holiday Requirements
- Holiday rotation with core staff
Call / Standby
- None
Floating Requirements
- Float as helping hands when needed
- Floating is uncommon
- May float to PCU/CVICU and occasionally take patients
- Mostly utilized as helping hands
Scrub Color / Dress Code
- Black
Orientation
- 1x12-hour shift orientation on hired shift/unit
- First day: 12–14 hours for:

- General orientation
