Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR RN)

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS Certification
• NIHSS Certification
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
• Strong circulating OR experience
• Ability to work in a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma environment

Position Overview

• The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse for a high-acuity Level 1 Trauma surgical environment.
• This role requires a skilled OR RN capable of managing a wide variety of complex surgical cases across multiple specialties in a fast-paced academic medical center.
• The ideal candidate will have strong circulating experience, excellent critical thinking skills, and the flexibility to work across diverse surgical services while supporting high-volume operative procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care in the operating room
• Prepare and maintain sterile surgical environments
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary teams
• Monitor patients throughout operative procedures and ensure patient safety standards are maintained
• Perform accurate surgical documentation and adherence to OR protocols
• Assist with emergency and trauma surgical procedures
• Maintain compliance with infection prevention and universal safety standards
• Support robotic, transplant, trauma, and specialty surgical services as assigned

• Level 1 Trauma procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Trauma Level I experience
• Robotics experience
• Transplant OR experience
• Scrub experience in ortho or neuro procedures

Unit Details

• Level 1 Trauma Operating Room
• 18-bed OR department
• Approximately 45–50 surgical procedures daily
• Floating required within OSU facilities as needed
• Call required:
  • Monday–Friday: 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM
  • Weekends: 12-hour call shifts
• Weekend Requirement:
  • 3 weekend shifts per 13 weeks as needed
