Description

Position: Registered Nurse – ECMO Specialist

Start Date: June 15, 2026

Location: Greenville, SC 29605

Shift: Night (3x12-hour, 19:00–07:30)

Duration: 13 weeks

Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (subject to change)

Float Requirement: CVICU and PICU

 

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – ECMO Specialist to join our critical care team. This role requires expertise in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) management for both pediatric and adult patients in the CVICU and PICU. The RN will collaborate closely with ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, and providers to deliver advanced life-support care.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage ECMO devices during bedside cannulation and cannula repositioning procedures.
  • Provide direct patient care for diagnoses including:
    • Post-cardiac surgery
    • Cardiogenic shock
    • Traumatic injury
    • ARDS/respiratory failure
    • Other acute critical illnesses requiring ECMO support
  • Float between CVICU and PICU units as required.
  • Ensure safe operation of specialized equipment:
    • Cardiohelp ECMO console
    • Centrimag ECMO console
    • Cardio Quip heater-cooler unit
    • Glucometer (point-of-care testing)
  • Document and manage patient care using EPIC (minimum 1 year experience required).
  • Follow ECMO order sets and provider team direction.
  • Provide weekend coverage every other weekend (subject to change based on unit needs).

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years as an ECMO Specialist; ICU background required.
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS (all current).
  • Licensure: Active South Carolina RN license.
  • Training: Completion of ECMO specialty device course and required CMEs to maintain proficiency.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with EPIC EMR system.
  • Clinical Expertise: Pediatric and adult ECMO management experience.
