Description

As an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN), you'll lead the implementation and delivery of occupational health programs and services that support the organization's health and wellness strategy. Your primary focus will be injury and illness assessment, triage, treatment, and continuity of care — with a broader scope that includes health surveillance, education, ergonomic assessments, case management, and return-to-work facilitation. You'll collaborate closely with HR, legal, and safety teams to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.

 

State date: June 12th, 12 month duration.

On-site clinic hours Monday-Friday 40hours a week.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Clinical Care (core focus)

  • Evaluate, treat, and manage workers' compensation injuries and illnesses
  • Offer assessment and treatment (within scope of practice) for both work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses, referring as appropriate
  • Administer vaccinations as appropriate for the site
  • Assist in accident investigations from a medical perspective

Health Surveillance & Compliance

  • Manage and deliver all medical surveillance and medical clearance programs for the site
  • Maintain all medical records in accordance with occupational health, legal, HIPAA, and ethical guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, FMLA, and other applicable regulatory programs

Case & Leave Management

  • Manage leave of absence cases, including STD and FMLA
  • Partner with HR and site leadership on work accommodations, return-to-work planning, EAP referrals, Fit for Duty evaluations, and Drug and Alcohol programs

Clinic Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the on-site occupational health clinic, including staffing and supplies

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Safety and Industrial Hygiene teams on medical recommendations related to risk assessments, surveillance, medical clearance, injury prevention, and accommodations
  • Support the medical aspects of the Emergency Response Team
  • Champion wellness and healthy living initiatives across the site

 

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license
  • BSN or BS degree with 3–5 years of occupational health experience preferred
  • Occupational Health Certification preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment skills; comfortable working autonomously
  • CPR/AED certified
  • Case management experience required
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of EAP, OSHA, FMLA, ADA, and HIPAA
  • Occupational health knowledge spanning epidemiology, environmental health, toxicology, safety, and industrial hygiene
  • NIOSH-approved Spirometry course completion preferred
  • CAOHC certification preferred (can be obtained after hire)
