Shift Rotating (See Notes) - 36 Shift Information Variable Shift On Call,
Call Back Requirements Yes
Weekend Rotation every other weekend or fewer as needed –Fri/Sat/Sun
Holiday Requirements Travelers will work 75% of holidays,
Unit requirement is every other holiday
Floating Requirements Yes - PICU, NICU, Gen Peds – will float as needed
Facility Overview
- 247-bed pediatric teaching hospital
- Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
- Certified Stroke Center
- Chest Pain Center
- Nationally recognized Congenital Cardiology program (Top 10 ranked)
- Traveler's permanent residence must be greater than 50 miles from the facility
Pediatric CVICU Overview
- 20-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
- Two 10-bed wings with centralized nursing station
- Highest-acuity patients located closest to the nursing station
- First-time travelers accepted
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a comparable high-acuity facility
- Experience caring for fresh open-heart surgery patients
- Pediatric transplant experience preferred
- Strong familiarity with advanced cardiac and critical care technologies
Patient Population
High-acuity patients ranging from newborns through 18 years old, including:
- Congenital heart disease
- Post-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Pre- and post-heart transplant patients
- Cardiac catheterization recovery patients
- Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs)
- ECMO patients
- Impella support
- Renal replacement therapies including Aquadex
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
Based on patient acuity:
- 2:1
- 1:1
- 1:2
Required Certifications
- Active RN License
- BLS
- PALS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Required Skills
- Fresh open-heart post-operative care
- Pediatric cardiac transplant experience
- ECMO management
- Impella experience
- Aquadex/Renal Replacement Therapy experience
- EPIC EMR proficiency
- Ability and willingness to float to PICU as needed

- Dedicated Charge Nurse (non-patient assignment)
- Resource Nurse available
- Unit Secretary every shift
- Health Care Technician support daily
- Respiratory Therapy (24/7)
- Cardiologist coverage (24/7)
- Intensivist coverage (24/7)
- Vascular Access Team available

- EMR: Epic (required)
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Patient Monitoring: Philips
- Centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring
Floating Requirements
May float as needed to:
- PICU
- NICU
- General Pediatrics
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- 2 days unit-specific orientation
Scheduling Requirements
- Every other weekend or less, based on unit needs (Friday–Sunday)
- Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks
- Travelers expected to work 75% of holidays
- Unit holiday requirement: Every other holiday
- RTO subject to manager approval
