Strong Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse Practitioner to join a highly specialized Pediatric Cardiac Care Center caring for critically ill congenital heart patients.

This advanced practice role serves as a primary provider within a multidisciplinary cardiac critical care team and requires expertise in managing complex congenital cardiac anatomy, physiology, and post-operative cardiac surgery patients.

The Pediatric Cardiac Care Center is a 16-bed acuity-adaptable unit providing advanced cardiac critical care to infants, children, adolescents, and select adults with congenital heart disease.

Assignment Details

• Start Date: July 20, 2026
• End Date: January 16, 2027
• Duration: 6–9 Months
• Schedule: 39 Hours Weekly
• Shift Length: 13 Hours
• Day Shift: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Night Shift: 6:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Rotation: Approximately 50% Days / 50% Nights
• Weekends: As Needed
• Holidays: As Needed
• On-Call / Callback: Per Unit Requirements

📌 Facility attempts to avoid scheduling day and night shifts within the same week.

Patient Population

• Critically ill pediatric congenital heart patients
• Pre-operative cardiac surgery patients
• Post-operative cardiac surgery patients
• High-risk single ventricle physiology
• Adult congenital heart disease patients
• PICU boarder patients requiring critical care management

Clinical Experience Required

Candidates must be comfortable managing:

• Complex congenital heart disease
• Congenital cardiac anatomy and physiology
• Open chest management
• Cardiac arrhythmias
• Vasopressor management
• External and internal pacemakers
• VA ECMO
• VV ECMO
• CRRT
• Hemodynamic instability
• Advanced critical care monitoring

Advanced Practice Responsibilities

• Serve as primary covering provider within the Pediatric Cardiac ICU
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments
• Develop and implement treatment plans
• Manage critically ill cardiac patients in collaboration with physicians
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds
• Coordinate care with nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and specialty services
• Support perioperative cardiac surgical care

Required Qualifications

Experience

✅ Minimum 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Practice Provider

✅ Strong knowledge of:

• Congenital cardiac anatomy
• Pediatric cardiac physiology
• Pediatric cardiac critical care

Education Requirements

• Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner

Licensure Requirements

• Active New York State RN License
• Active New York State Nurse Practitioner License
• Current National Nurse Practitioner Certification

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA)
• PALS

Preferred

• Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification
