Interim Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services (Pharmacist in Charge)
Location: Missouri (OZH)
Assignment Duration: Roughly 7/9 – 10/1 (Includes 2 weeks of onsite training prior to coverage)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Call Requirements: No official on-call rotation, but serves as the primary escalation resource for staff questions/concerns.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and leadership-ready Interim Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services to step into the role of Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) during a maternity leave coverage window. Managing a dedicated team of 4.5 Pharmacist FTEs and 6 Technician FTEs, you will oversee daily operations for a 114-bed hospital (Average Daily Census: 65).
A critical component of this interim assignment includes preparing the department for an upcoming Joint Commission survey window in Fall 2026.
Key Responsibilities
As the Interim Director and PIC, you will drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and staff alignment. Core duties include:
- Departmental Leadership: Run monthly department meetings and lead daily weekday morning huddles. Create schedules for pharmacists and technicians.
- Committee Management: Build agendas for and lead the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee; implement approved initiatives. Attend monthly medical staff committees (3) and COPD readmissions reduction meetings.
- Supply Chain & Operations: Partner with the department Buyer to resolve medication supply chain issues. Order controlled substances twice weekly.
- Systems & Compliance: Manage payroll and oversee Pyxis user access privileges. Maintain accountability for all PIC legal and regulatory requirements.
- Clinical Support: Maintain oversight across diverse site specialties (including Orthopedics, OB, Oncology, Cardiology, and Adult Behavioral Health). Potentially assist with sterile compounding strictly on an as-needed basis (e.g., staff call-ins).
Position Requirements
Licensure & Certifications
- Active, unrestricted Missouri Pharmacist License (Required).
- Medication Therapy Services (MTS) Certification (Required).
Experience & Skills
- Inpatient Leadership: Recent, robust experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting; prior pharmacy leadership or PIC experience strongly preferred.
- EMR Proficiency: Experience with Meditech Expanse is highly preferred, as this role is responsible for managing the drug dictionary.
- Survey Readiness: Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and a focus on maintaining compliance during a survey window.
Assignment Logistics & Perking
- Onboarding: 2 weeks of dedicated, onsite training will be provided before the coverage period begins.
- Dress Code: Business casual or scrubs (any color/print).
