Job Title: Step Down Unit (RN)
Location:  Altoona PA 16601
Shift: 12 hour shifts 

Hours: AM 7:00am-7:30pm or PM 7:30pm-7:00am available 
Local Pay: $50.00 - $53.00 per hour
Scheduled Pay: Weekly
Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Short term disability after 90 days
Job Type: Full time -W2 13 week contract 

Step Down Unit (RN) Duties Responsibilities 

• Provide direct nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring but not intensive care, including cardiac, post-surgical, and medically complex patients.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including frequent monitoring of vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and neurological status.
• Interpret telemetry data and promptly identify and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, including IV therapies and titratable drips (per facility protocol), and monitor patient response.
• Manage patients with conditions such as heart failure, respiratory distress, post-operative recovery, and sepsis.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Provide care for patients requiring advanced interventions such as oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and wound care.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Respond to rapid changes in patient condition, initiating emergency interventions and escalating care when necessary.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
• Support patient recovery and promote safe transitions to lower levels of care or discharge.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards.
• Act as a patient advocate while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Step Down Unit (RN) Requirements: 

• Active RN Pennsylvania State License
• 1 year Step Down, PCU, or Intermediate Care Unit experience
• BLS and ACLS required
