Location: Farmington Hills, MI 48336

Assignment Type: Travel Contract

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday
• Evening Shift: 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM
• Rotating weekends and holidays required

Travel Requirement:

Candidates must reside 50 miles or more from the facility to be eligible for this travel assignment.

Compensation:

Competitive travel pay package available based on experience, credentials, and location eligibility.

Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is responsible for performing complex laboratory testing and analysis on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The MLS will operate laboratory instrumentation, perform quality control procedures, interpret test results, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

Under the direction of laboratory leadership, the MLS will:

• Perform testing in various laboratory departments including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunology, and Blood Bank as applicable.
• Analyze, verify, and report laboratory results accurately and in a timely manner.
• Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and quality control procedures.
• Follow all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records.
• Ensure specimen integrity and proper handling throughout the testing process.
• Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain a safe and professional work environment while adhering to infection control and safety standards.

Job Requirements

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory regulations, quality assurance, and compliance standards.
• Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules as needed.

Required Education & Credentials

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related scientific field required.
• ASCP Certification (MLS, MT) or equivalent certification required.
• Current applicable state licensure if required by state regulations.

Work Experience

• Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Medical Laboratory Scientist experience preferred.
• Experience in a hospital or acute care laboratory setting preferred.
• Experience performing moderate and high-complexity testing.
• Blood Bank experience preferred but not required.
