Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Mother-Baby RN – Critical Access Hospital

Unit Overview

Provides comprehensive care for:

• Labor & Delivery (L&D)
• Postpartum (Mother-Baby)
• Newborn Care
• Antepartum Patients
• Obstetric Emergencies

Patient Population

• Laboring mothers
• High-risk and low-risk pregnancies
• Postpartum mothers
• Newborn infants
• Mother-Baby couplet care patients

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor labor progression and fetal well-being
• Assist with vaginal deliveries and C-sections
• Provide immediate newborn assessment and stabilization
• Perform postpartum assessments for mothers and infants
• Administer medications and IV therapy
• Support breastfeeding and newborn education
• Educate patients and families on postpartum and newborn care
• Recognize and respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies
• Document patient care accurately in the EMR
