FAMILY BIRTHING CENTER RN – QUICK BREAKDOWN

📍 Position Overview

• Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for both direct patient care and care coordination/management
• Works in the Family Birthing Center (Labor & Delivery, Mother-Baby Unit)
• Uses the Nursing Process: Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation
• May function as Charge Nurse when assigned

📅 Contract & Scheduling

Working Hours

• Typically 8–12 hour shifts
• Facility may call off up to 24 hours per month at no cost during assignment
• On-call requirements may apply based on unit needs

👶 Unit Specialty

Family Birthing Center

Provides care for:

• Labor & Delivery patients
• Postpartum mothers
• Newborns
• Mother-Baby Unit (MBU) patients

✅ Required Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program

License

• Active Washington RN License

Certifications

• BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) within 30 days of hire

Experience

• Acute care RN experience preferred
• Minimum 1 year RN experience preferred for specialty units

🏥 Family Birthing Center Certifications

Required

• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) before end of orientation
• ACLS within 6 months of hire
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring) within 3 months of L&D training

Preferred

• STABLE Certification
• RN-C Specialty Certification

🩺 Key Clinical Responsibilities

• Maternal and newborn assessments
• Care planning and implementation
• Patient and family education
• Medication administration
• Documentation in EMR
• Delegation and supervision of support staff
• Emergency response and crisis management
• Charge nurse duties when assigned

💻 Documentation & Technology

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation required
• Accurate charting and regulatory compliance expected
