Pediatric OR Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Oakland, California


Job Details

  • Position: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse
  • Location: Oakland, California
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Day shifts, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 6:30 PM or 12:00 PM - 10:30 PM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of pediatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Pediatric Operating Room (OR) experience
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with surgical scrub techniques
  • Cardiac circulating experience
  • Ambulatory or outpatient experience
  • CNOR certification

Certifications & Competencies

  • Must have original AHA BLS and PALS cards at orientation and while working
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day (with up to 3 retakes allowed)
  • Medication and unit-specific competency exams with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed through approved vendors (Relias, HealthcareSource, RN.com) within 12 months prior to start
  • Core clinical training modules (Parts I, II, III) with 80%+ passing score, updated annually
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all RNs

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide checks, completed within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Employment verification covering 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Two supervisory references from most recent or second most recent employer (charge nurses acceptable)
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (specific approved mask types required), with onsite fit testing available as last resort
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
  • Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot)
  • Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
  • Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April) if onsite more than 10 days
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Current and valid government photo ID matching professional license (Driver’s License, State ID, or US Passport)
  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or on first day (for RNs starting on Tuesday, all modules except in-person trainings must be completed before Day 1)
  • Completion of emergency contact information form
  • Annual Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz (passing score 80%+)
  • HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Quiz (passing score 80%+) for nursing staff
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for emergency department roles (not specified for this position)

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam is required for nurses working in specified units including pediatrics
  • Onsite fit testing appointments are available only on Wednesdays at 3 PM PST
