🚑 Emergency Department RN Job Breakdown

Unit: Emergency Department / ED Holding
Shift: Nights 3x12s (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 hrs (48 hrs may be considered)
Charting: Cerner
Patient Ratio: 1:5
Trauma Level: Level I Trauma Center

🩺 Core Responsibilities

• Emergency & Trauma Care: ~16–18 hrs/week
  Assess, stabilize, and treat emergency patients with medical, surgical, and trauma-related conditions.
• ED Holding / Admitted Patients: ~10–12 hrs/week
  Manage admitted patients awaiting inpatient beds. Travelers should expect a significant portion of the assignment to involve ED holding patients.
• Medication Administration & Critical Interventions: ~4–5 hrs/week
  IV medication administration, emergency procedures, ACLS/PALS protocols, and patient monitoring.
• Trauma & Critical Care Support: ~3–4 hrs/week
  Assist with trauma activations, rapid patient assessments, and critical care interventions.
• Documentation & Care Coordination: ~3–4 hrs/week
  Cerner charting, interdisciplinary communication, and patient/family education.

📌 Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC (Required BEFORE Submission)
• NIHSS (May pend until compliance deadline before start)

📌 License Requirements

• NM RN License may be pending at submission
• No locals within 100 miles

🔄 Floating Requirements

• ED Holding Units
• Adult PCUs (expected based on staffing needs)
• Trauma areas (based on experience)
• Pediatric ED floating optional

⭐ Preferred Experience

• 2+ years Emergency Department experience
• Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted with strong Level I Trauma background

📅 Scheduling Details

• Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekends as needed
• No call requirement
• Block scheduling not available
• Facility may call off up to 3 shifts during a 13-week assignment
• OT applies after 48 hours/week
