Description
🚑 Emergency Department RN Job Breakdown
Unit: Emergency Department / ED Holding
Shift: Nights 3x12s (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 hrs (48 hrs may be considered)
Charting: Cerner
Patient Ratio: 1:5
Trauma Level: Level I Trauma Center
🩺 Core Responsibilities
- Emergency & Trauma Care: ~16–18 hrs/week
Assess, stabilize, and treat emergency patients with medical, surgical, and trauma-related conditions. - ED Holding / Admitted Patients: ~10–12 hrs/week
Manage admitted patients awaiting inpatient beds. Travelers should expect a significant portion of the assignment to involve ED holding patients. - Medication Administration & Critical Interventions: ~4–5 hrs/week
IV medication administration, emergency procedures, ACLS/PALS protocols, and patient monitoring. - Trauma & Critical Care Support: ~3–4 hrs/week
Assist with trauma activations, rapid patient assessments, and critical care interventions. - Documentation & Care Coordination: ~3–4 hrs/week
Cerner charting, interdisciplinary communication, and patient/family education.
📌 Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- TNCC (Required BEFORE Submission)
- NIHSS (May pend until compliance deadline before start)
📌 License Requirements
- NM RN License may be pending at submission
- No locals within 100 miles

- Approximately 60–80% admitted/holding patients

- Black scrubs required (not provided)

🔄 Floating Requirements
- ED Holding Units
- Adult PCUs (expected based on staffing needs)
- Trauma areas (based on experience)
- Pediatric ED floating optional
⭐ Preferred Experience
- 2+ years Emergency Department experience
- Level I Trauma experience strongly preferred
- Previous travel experience preferred
- First-time travelers accepted with strong Level I Trauma background
📅 Scheduling Details
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekends as needed
- No call requirement
- Block scheduling not available
- Facility may call off up to 3 shifts during a 13-week assignment
- OT applies after 48 hours/week
