🏥 ICU / PCU RN – Job Breakdown

Unit: ICU / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: Varied (Days & Nights)
Weekly Hours: Typically 36 hrs/week (3x12s)
 

📅 Weekly Hours Breakdown

Critical Care & Direct Patient Care: ~22–24 hrs/week

• Care for critically ill ICU and PCU patients
• Continuous assessment, monitoring, and intervention

Cardiac & Hemodynamic Monitoring: ~4–5 hrs/week

• Telemetry monitoring
• Management of unstable patients
• Rapid recognition of clinical deterioration

Medication & Drip Management: ~4–5 hrs/week

• Administration of IV medications
• Management of critical care drips and treatments
• Response to emergencies and code situations

Documentation & Care Coordination: ~2–3 hrs/week

• Accurate charting and patient documentation
• Collaboration with physicians, respiratory therapy, and multidisciplinary teams

Patient & Family Education: ~1–2 hrs/week

• Education regarding treatments, procedures, and discharge planning

• Provide ICU and PCU level nursing care
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms
• Manage critically ill and high-acuity patients
• Administer medications and IV therapies
• Respond to rapid changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams
• Maintain accurate documentation and compliance standards

📌 Key Requirements

• ICU and/or PCU experience required
• Strong critical care assessment skills
• Experience with telemetry monitoring
• Ability to adapt between ICU and PCU patient populations
• Comfortable working both day and night shifts
