🏥 Travel RN – Med/Surg / Infectious Disease Isolation Unit (Cost Center 25)

⏰ Shift & Weekly Hours

• Shift Type: 12-hour shifts
• Day Shift: 07:00 – 19:30
• Night Shift: 19:00 – 07:30
• Schedule Pattern: Traveler scheduled based on unit needs (self-scheduling for perm staff only)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Nights: Fri / Sat / Sun
  • Days: Sat / Sun
• Total Weekly Hours: 36 hours/week (3 × 12-hour shifts)
• Overtime: Not guaranteed; may vary based on staffing needs

🏥 Unit Overview

• Bed Capacity: 18 beds
• Room Type: All private rooms (Infectious Disease control)
• Unit Type: Med/Surg Infectious Disease / Isolation Unit
• Tele Monitoring: Remote telemetry monitored from 3rd floor
  • RNs do NOT interpret strips

👩‍⚕️ Patient Population / Diagnoses

High-acuity infectious disease patients including:

• COVID-19
• MRSA
• C-Diff
• Other infectious and isolation cases
• Patients requiring oxygen support (non-ventilator cases)

⚖️ Staffing & Ratios

• RN Ratio:
  • 1:5–6 standard
  • 1:4 for COVID patients
• Staffing: 3–4 RNs per shift
• CNA Support: 2 CNAs per shift
• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7
  • Day shift charge may take patients
  • Night charge takes full assignment

🧠 Required Skills & Experience

• Strong Med-Surg experience required
• Strong Infectious Disease / Isolation precautions knowledge
• Comfort managing:
  • Isolation patients
  • High-flow oxygen / BiPAP / CPAP (managed by RT)
• No ventilator management required
• Must be able to float to other Med-Surg units
• Must be comfortable with typical IV meds including:
  • Heparin
  • Antibiotics
  • Standard Med/Surg drips (non-complex titration)

📜 Certifications

• BLS – Required only
• No additional certifications required

🧭 Floating Policy

• Travelers are first to float
• Must float to any Med/Surg units
• If floated to Tele:
  • Patients assigned within RN skillset

🧾 Scrub / Dress Code

• Color: Royal Blue scrubs only
• Jackets allowed only if:
  • Scrub jacket
  • Royal blue
• ❌ No hoodies or sweatshirts

🎓 Orientation

• Day 1: EPIC EMR orientation
• Day 2: Floor orientation with preceptor
• Day 3: Independent assignment
