🏥 Travel RN – Stepdown / MedSurg Flex Unit (29 Beds)

⏰ Shift & Weekly Hours

• Shift Type: 12-hour shifts
• Scheduling: Agency roles posted as weekend-focused positions
• Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed (best effort based on staffing needs)
• Weekend Requirement: Agency RN positions are weekend-based
• Holiday Requirement: ~50% WVUH-recognized holidays
• Call/Standby: Not required
• Total Weekly Hours: 36 hours/week (3 × 12-hour shifts)

⚖️ Nurse:Patient Ratios

• Must be able to manage:
  • 6 Med-Surg patients OR
  • 3 Stepdown patients
• EPIC EMR experience – MANDATORY (non-negotiable)

RNs will titrate based on provider orders:

• Heparin
• Insulin
• Anti-hypertensives
• Anti-arrhythmics
• Phenobarbital
• Ketamine

• TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition)

🧬 Patient Population / Diagnoses

• Primarily medical (medicine unit) patients
• Mixed acuity:
  • Stepdown-level patients
  • Med-Surg patients
• Diverse general hospital medicine cases

🧑‍⚕️ Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse: 24/7 coverage
  • May take assignments initially during unit ramp-up
  • Goal: free charge nurse long-term
• House Supervisor: Available 24/7
• Clinical Associates (CAs): 3 per shift goal
• RT Coverage: Available for respiratory support

🫁 Respiratory / Equipment Support

• CPAP / BiPAP on floor + stepdown
• High-flow oxygen
• Ventilators present in stepdown
  • If vent settings need adjustment → patient moved to ICU
