Description
Registered Nurse - PCU (North Carolina, Greensboro)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Schedule: Every other weekend and holidays as needed; floating required as needed
Job Description
- Focus on cardiac patients including Congestive Heart Failure, rule-out myocardial infarction, Acute Coronary Syndrome, and Arrhythmias
- Secondary focus on respiratory conditions such as COPD and pneumonia
- Patient diagnoses commonly include Heart Failure, Respiratory Failure, NSTEMI, COPD, and Pneumonia
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with at least some experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience required
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- First-time travel nurses are welcome (no prior travel experience required)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Pass/Fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) exam required for all RNs (must score 82% or higher; 2 attempts allowed)
- NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for Cardiac Progressive Care and MS/Telemetry units)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., TNCC, CPI) — verify with clinical leadership
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card (required for badge issuance)
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases, national criminal search, federal court, sex offender registry, education verification, and international searches if applicable
- Education Verification: Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required; foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Transcript/Diploma copy may be required for verification
- Employment Application/Resume with 7-year work history
- Verification of all employment within last 5 years through a third-party vendor
- Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months prior to start)
- Annual Skills Checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
- Facility-specific documents including Health History Form, EPIC Test (if applicable), Dress Code acknowledgment, Floating Policy, and Contractor Equipment Acknowledgement Form
- Badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire, forward-facing)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (if applicable) within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask test completed within current calendar year and updated annually (approved N95 respirators only)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (includes THC, opiates, methadone, cocaine, PCP, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, oxycodone, propoxyphene)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult Tdap vaccine proof required)
- TB test (Qgold/TSPOT) within 6 months of start or chest X-ray if positive history
- TB Questionnaire within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Hepatitis B: Titer or declination with booster series if non-reactive
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines at least 28 days apart
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/22/2025 – 2/27/2026)
Additional Requirements
- Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
- Compliance documents must be completed by 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to start date
- Floating across units required as needed
- Pass/Fail EPIC test required for RNs starting 9/19/23 (2 attempts allowed; 80% passing score)
- Fingerprinting required only for Home Health and Long-Term Care positions (not applicable here)
- Workday login and onboarding tasks must be completed prior to arrival
