Description
Unit Notes: ED / Trauma
Candidates must pass the DYS exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed; failure results in DNU for 6 months for CS AZ and Sacramento Region).
Minimum requirement: at least 6 months of Trauma Level I experience (required).
Float Policy: Candidates may float between St. Joseph’s Main, St. Joseph’s Westgate, and two Free Standing ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale (4 facilities total, approximately 30 minutes apart). Float may occur mid-shift. Travel team members must have their own vehicle.
Professional requirements include natural hair color, no facial piercings, and clean-shaven appearance for fit testing (men). A pass/fail exam is conducted on Day 1 of orientation (study guide provided with FDI SIMs Lab materials).
SIMs Lab Requirements:
All RNs must complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, except NyICU and ED. NyICU is required to complete Foley catheter insertion only. ED performs Foley insertion and port-a-cath insertion instead of central line dressing change. SIMs Lab is pass/fail, and failure due to sterile field breach may result in termination. Additional training includes lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only due to facility variations).
The facility expects strong competency in sterile technique and core nursing skills.
