Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Cardiac Stepdown
Shift Details

- Hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekly Hours: 36
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse to join a highly respected Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma, Teaching Hospital. This role is ideal for nurses with strong cardiac experience who thrive in a fast-paced acute care environment and are comfortable caring for complex cardiac patients.
Patient Population & Ratios
- Cardiac PCU/Stepdown patients
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- On rare occasions, ratios may flex to 1:6
Minimum Requirements
- Active RN license
- 2+ years of recent PCU/Cardiac nursing experience
- Cardiac experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification
- First-time travelers welcome
Clinical Skills Required
Cardiac & Telemetry
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring
- Dysrhythmia recognition and management
- Emergency response and Rapid Response Team participation
- Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization care
- Post-Cardiac Angiogram care
- Post-Myocardial Infarction (MI) care
- Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery care
IV Therapy & Medication Management
- Central line care and management
- PICC line management
- Peripheral IV insertion and maintenance
- Port access
- Blood product administration
- Heparin protocols
- Cardiac drips (non-titrated)
- Vasoactive drips (non-titrated)
- PCA management
Respiratory Care
- Chest tube management
- CPAP/BiPAP
- High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Tracheostomy care
- ABG interpretation
- Oxygen delivery systems
- Non-invasive airway management
Additional Skills
- IV insulin protocols
- Feeding tube care and management
- Renal failure management
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis care
- Surgical drain management
- Wound care and wound vacs
- Isolation precautions
Preferred Skills
- Sheath removal
- Titration of cardiac drips
- Titration of vasoactive drips
Scheduling & Expectations
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- Charge nurse assignments may be required
- 8 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Floating may be required between units, departments, and affiliated facilities within competency
- Block scheduling not available
- Local candidates accepted
- Pending licenses not accepted
- Maximum RTO: 7 days
