Registered Nurse (RN) – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Location: Akron Campus, Akron, Ohio
Department: PACU
Assignment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Duration: July 5, 2026 – October 3, 2026
Shift: Day Shift – 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (3x12-hour shifts)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join our healthcare team at Akron Campus. The PACU RN is responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. The nurse will assess, monitor, and manage post-operative patients while ensuring safe and effective recovery through evidence-based nursing practices.

The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced perioperative environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
  • Monitor patients during the immediate post-anesthesia recovery phase.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, surgeons, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Educate patients and families regarding recovery expectations and discharge instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Utilize critical thinking and evidence-based nursing practices to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program approved by either:
    • Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or
    • Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing accepted if accredited through ACEN or CCNE.

Licensure

  • Active and unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) License.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of recent PACU experience required.
  • Minimum 1 year of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Recent Epic EMR experience within the last 12 months required and must be clearly reflected on the resume.

Certifications

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
  • Additional certifications such as PALS, NIH Stroke Certification, or specialty-specific credentials may be required based on patient population.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong post-operative patient assessment and monitoring skills.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia recovery protocols and emergency interventions.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection.
  • Experience using Epic Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and patient education skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs simultaneously.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, diversity, and professionalism.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, hazardous substances, and radiation commonly found in healthcare settings.

Physical Demand Level: Heavy Work

  • Exerts 50–100 pounds occasionally.
  • Exerts 25–50 pounds frequently.
  • Exerts 10–20 pounds continuously to move or assist patients and equipment.

Schedule Information

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Three 12-hour shifts per week
  • No weekends required
  • No on-call responsibilities

Important Submission Requirements

  • Maximum of 7 days RTO (Requested Time Off) allowed.
  • Candidates with more than 7 days of RTO will be automatically rejected.
  • Interview availability (dates and times) must be provided at submission.
  • Epic experience used within the last 12 months must be clearly listed on the resume.
  • Degree accreditation (ACEN or CCNE) must be verified before submission.
