Surgery Scrub Tech (Surgical Technologist)
Location: Kealakekua, HI
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (07/06/2026 – 10/05/2026)
Shift: Days | 4x10-Hour Shifts (Exact days variable)
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Per Week

- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2 years of solid Operating Room scrub experience is required.
- On-Call Requirement: Mandatory call rotation is required to provide emergency surgical coverage for the facility.
- Holiday Context: Holiday coverage is required during the course of this 13-week contract window.
- State Licensure: A specific state license is not needed for surgical technologists in this territory.

Job Summary
A community hospital on the Big Island of Hawaii is seeking a highly versatile, autonomous Surgical Tech / Scrub Tech for a 13-week contract. This role requires an adaptable professional with a broad technical skillset capable of independently preparing sterile fields and scrubbing for a multi-specialty surgical volume. You will support a dynamic operating suite handling a heavy mix of general surgeries, acute traumas, orthopedics, OB/GYN interventions, and endoscopies.
Key Responsibilities
- Multi-Specialty Scrubbing: Independently prepare, scrub, and anticipate surgeon needs across general surgery, orthopedic hardware placements, emergency trauma interventions, and OB/GYN procedures (such as C-sections).
- Sterile Field Integrity: Establish, maintain, and monitor the sterile field. Enforce absolute aseptic technique across all team members throughout high-stakes cases.
- Instrument Matrix Assembly: Organize and arrange complex surgical toolsets, power tools, specialized retractor systems, and endoscopic camera setups based on physician preference cards.
- Surgical Count Protocols: Collaboratively execute meticulous, legally mandated counts of sponges, sharps, and instrumentation with the Circulating RN before, during, and after surgical closures.
- Endoscopic Processing Assistance: Properly handle, prepare, and manage endoscopic and laparoscopic instrumentation, tracking hardware functionality during diagnostic and therapeutic scopes.
- Specimen Care: Securely accept, document, and label intraoperative specimens according to established patient safety rules.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of continuous inpatient hospital Operating Room scrubbing experience. Must be competent across multiple service lines (especially Ortho and Trauma).
- Certifications: Active AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) is required.
