Unit Overview

Join a busy 48-bed Medical Surgical unit caring for a diverse adult patient population. This traveler-friendly assignment offers strong support from CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapy, and telemetry monitoring staff.

Patient Population

• Pneumonia
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)
• Altered Mental Status (AMS)
• Gastrointestinal Bleeds
• Alcohol Withdrawal
• Falls & Generalized Weakness
• Medical-Surgical Telemetry Patients

Requirements

• Active RN License
• BLS Certification
• Minimum 1 Year of Recent Medical Surgical Experience
• First-Time Travelers Accepted

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• Days: 1:5–7
• Nights: 1:6–8

Clinical Support

Charge Nurse Coverage

• Dedicated charge nurse on each shift
• May take patient assignments depending on staffing levels

CNA/PCT Support

• Typical ratio: 1:10–12
• Assistance with:
  • Vital Signs
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • EKGs
  • Telemetry Monitor Placement
  • Bathing & Hygiene
  • Feeding
  • Toileting
  • Patient Positioning

Respiratory Therapy Support

RT manages:

• BiPAP
• CPAP
• High-Flow Oxygen
• Breathing Treatments
• Inhalers
• ABGs

RNs are responsible for monitoring patient status and reporting concerns.

Telemetry Monitoring

• Dedicated monitor technicians oversee telemetry patients
• Nurses are not required to independently interpret telemetry strips

Scheduling & Expectations

• Every Other Weekend Required
• Holiday Rotation May Apply
• No Call Requirement
• No Self-Scheduling
• No Block Scheduling
• Travelers should be flexible to assist with staffing needs
• Rotating day/night schedules are structured to avoid switching within the same week

Floating Requirements

• Floating and shift-pull rotation required
• May float to:
  • Medical Surgical Units
  • Med-Surg Telemetry Units
  • IMC (Intermediate Care) for lower-acuity patients

Orientation

• 1 Day Hospital/Educator & Computer Training
• 1 Day Unit Orientation with Preceptor
