Travel RN – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Assignment Details

  • Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Shift Options:
    • Days: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
    • Nights: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts
  • Contract Length: 13 Weeks
  • Block Scheduling Available (Especially for Night Shift)

Unit Overview

Join an 18-bed ICU providing care to critically ill patients with complex and life-threatening conditions. This high-acuity unit specializes in advanced hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac care, neurological emergencies, respiratory failure, and critical care interventions.

The ICU is expected to expand to 27 beds, offering travelers exposure to a growing and dynamic critical care environment.

Unit Information

  • 18-Bed ICU
  • Planned Expansion to 27 Beds
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
    • Typical: 1:2
    • Occasionally 1:3 for overflow or stepdown-level patients
  • Dedicated Charge Nurse
  • House Supervisor Available 24/7

  • Acute Myocardial Infarction (MI)
  • Renal Failure
  • Post-Vascular Procedures
  • Stroke & TIA
  • Seizure Disorders
  • ARDS
  • Respiratory Failure
  • Hemodynamic Instability
  • Critically Ill Medical & Surgical Patients
  • Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric Patients

Requirements

  • Active RN License
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Minimum 2 Years of Critical Care Experience
  • Previous Travel Nursing Experience Required
  • No Travel Duos

Preferred Certifications & Experience

  • PALS
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC
  • CRRT Experience
  • IABP Experience
  • Impella Experience

Required Clinical Skills

Critical Care & Hemodynamic Monitoring

  • Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring
  • Non-Invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring
  • Critical Care Assessment
  • Management of High-Acuity ICU Patients

Cardiac Care

  • Acute MI Management
  • Post-Vascular Procedure Care
  • Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation
  • Telemetry Monitoring
  • Independent Tele Strip Interpretation

Drip Management

Must be comfortable titrating:

  • Levophed
  • Cardizem
  • Amiodarone
  • Heparin
  • Insulin
  • Sedation Infusions
  • Vasopressor Infusions

Neurological Care

  • Stroke & TIA Patients
  • Seizure Management
  • Lumbar Drain Management

Respiratory Care

  • Mechanical Ventilation
  • Endotracheal Tube Management
  • Tracheostomy Ventilation
  • BiPAP
  • CPAP
  • ARDS Patient Management

Scheduling & Requirements

  • Every Other Weekend Required
  • Holiday Rotation with Core Staff
  • No Call Requirement
  • Manager-Created Schedule
  • Block Scheduling Available

Floating Expectations

  • Required to Float Within Scope
  • Primary Float Area: Stepdown Unit
  • May Float to:
    • Med-Surg/Telemetry
    • Emergency Department Boarding Areas
  • Travelers Float in Rotation
  • If Floated to Med-Surg, Full Patient Assignment May Be Required
