Unit Overview

Join an 18-bed Infectious Disease and Medical Surgical unit featuring all private patient rooms. This specialized unit cares for patients requiring isolation precautions and treatment for a wide range of infectious diseases.

The ideal candidate will have strong Med Surg experience, excellent infection prevention knowledge, and be comfortable working with isolation protocols.

Patient Population

• COVID-19
• MRSA
• C. Diff
• Infectious Disease Cases
• Isolation Patients
• General Medical-Surgical Patients
• Patients Requiring Extended Antibiotic Therapy

Unit Information

• 18 Private Patient Rooms
• Typical Staffing: 3–4 RNs Per Shift
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
  • 1:5–6 Standard Assignment
  • 1:4 for COVID Patients
• Charge Nurse Available 24/7

Requirements

• Active RN License
• BLS Certification
• Recent Travel Nursing Experience Required
• Recent EPIC Experience Required
• Strong Med Surg Background
• Knowledge of Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Practices

Clinical Support

Charge Nurse Coverage

• Dedicated Charge Nurse 24/7
• Day Charge May Take Patients as Needed
• Night Charge Typically Carries a Full Assignment

CNA Support

• Two CNAs Per Shift

Respiratory Support

Patients may require:

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High-Flow Oxygen

Respiratory Therapy manages respiratory equipment and treatments.

Telemetry Monitoring

• Remote Telemetry Monitoring Available
• Monitor Technicians Observe Telemetry
• Nurses are not required to interpret telemetry strips

Scheduling & Expectations

• Every Other Weekend Required
• Block Scheduling Available Based on Unit Needs
• Travelers scheduled according to staffing needs
• Holiday requirements based on unit coverage needs

Floating Requirements

• Travelers are first to float
• May float to other Medical Surgical units
• If floated to Telemetry units, assignments will remain within competency and skill level

Orientation

• 1 Day EPIC Training
• 1 Day Unit Orientation with Preceptor
• Independent assignment beginning on Day 3

Dress Code

• Royal Blue Scrubs
• If wearing a jacket, it must be a Royal Blue scrub jacket
• No hoodies or sweatshirts permitted
