Shift times:Day: 0700β1930
Night: 1900β0730
12-hour shifts
Scheduling managed by leadership (travelers placed where needed, not self-scheduled)
Travelers may be placed into staffing gaps
π Requirements
Weekend: Every other weekend (EOW) or as needed
Holidays: Required
Call/Standby: Not required (may have voluntary pickup options)

Required to float to:Meridian Hospital
Nampa Hospital
May also float to other units for:Sitter assignments
Similar acuity patient careeekends as needed, first to float

- Unit Type: Postpartum / Mother-Baby (Couplet Care)
- Beds: 32 maternal beds + 32 baby/couplet capacity
- Annual Volume: ~350β400 births/month (~4,200β4,800/year)

- RN Ratio Goal:
- 1 RN : 3 couplets (standard goal)
- 1:6 ratio possible depending on acuity/assignment mix
- High acuity (Magnesium): 1:4 ratio
- Rare exceptions:
- 4 couplets if discharges or low-acuity mix
- Twins may affect assignment balancing
- Charge RN: No patient assignment (fully free charge)

- Postpartum mothers (routine + higher risk)
- Magnesium sulfate (pre-eclampsia)
- Pitocin infusions (postpartum protocol)
- C-sections (no major GYN surgical cases beyond tubals)
- Twins / multiple births
- Well newborns only (NICU transfers if higher needs)
- Procedures:
- Circumcisions
- Frenectomies
π Drips / Clinical Skills
- RN must be able to titrate drips
- Common titratable meds:
- Magnesium sulfate
- Pitocin (per protocol)

- CNAs and Unit Clerk/Health Unit Coordinator
- Locked unit
- Dedicated discharge nurse (education support)
- Lactation consultants (ABM model used)

- Lab support for newborn metabolic screening

- NICU neonatologist in-house 24/7 (emergency response)
- Newborn hospitalist/APP available 24/7
- OB hospitalist in-house for emergencies
- Anesthesia: in-house 24/7
- RT involvement minimal (oxygen support only; NICU if higher support needed)
