Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry Float Pool

Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift Options: 12-Hour Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) or Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: 36 Hours Weekly
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend
Holiday Requirement: Participation in Holiday Rotation

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Med Surg/Telemetry Float Pool RN to join a traveler-friendly healthcare system. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple inpatient units while caring for a diverse patient population. Candidates must be comfortable floating between various Med Surg and Telemetry units and possess strong cardiac monitoring skills.

Float Pool Coverage

Travelers may float to:

• 6N Cardiac/Telemetry (36 Beds)
• 7N Cardiac Unit (29 Beds)
• 4N Medical/Surgical Unit
• 5S Medical/Surgical Unit
• 6S Medical/Surgical Unit
• Critical Care Unit (within scope)

Float pool nurses report to the Clinical Coordinator before each shift for unit assignment.

Patient Population

Common diagnoses include:

• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Cardiac Catheterization Recovery
• Chest Pain
• Pneumonia
• COPD
• Chronic Renal Disease
• Orthopedic Patients
• Oncology Patients

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• Typically 1:5–6 patients
• Occasionally up to 1:7 depending on unit census and acuity

Required Qualifications

• Active RN License
• Current BLS Certification
• Current ACLS Certification
• Recent Med Surg and Telemetry experience
• Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythms
• Must successfully pass a Cardiac Rhythm Exam

Clinical Skills Required

• Telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation
• Cardiac patient assessment
• Medical-Surgical nursing care
• Care of telemetry patients
• Strong critical thinking and prioritization skills

Unit Support

• Charge Nurse available on all units
• CNAs/PCTs available throughout the facility
• Respiratory Therapy manages CPAP and BiPAP patients
• Monitor Technicians available on most telemetry units
• Phillips Telemetry Monitoring System

Floating Expectations

• Travelers are expected to float as needed within their competency level
• Assigned patients will remain within the RN’s scope of practice
• No titration of cardiac drips required

Orientation

• 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
• Unit-specific onboarding provided

Dress Code

• Royal Blue Scrubs
