ACU (Advanced Care Unit / Stepdown RN) – 

Unit: ACU (Stepdown)
Beds: 30 private rooms
Shift: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM or 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Ratios: 1:4

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• All certifications must be active at submission

Must-Have Experience

• Stepdown/PCU experience
• Strong stroke, trauma, and vascular patient experience
• Ability to read, verify, and sign off telemetry strips
• Experience with:
  • Post-cath patients (TR Bands, femoral access)
  • Carotid patients
  • DKA
  • Vascular cases
  • Heparin and insulin drips

Patient Population

• Stroke
• Trauma
• Vascular surgery patients
• Fem-Pops
• Carotids
• DKA
• AKA
• Post-cath patients

Drips

• Cardizem (titrated per physician order)
• Heparin
• Insulin

Telemetry

• Monitor techs available
• RN must read, verify, and sign-off telemetry strips

Respiratory Equipment

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• High Flow Oxygen

Support Staff

• 3 PCTs per shift (approximately 1:10 ratio)
• Charge Nurse 24/7
  • Night Charge takes patients

Floating

• Travelers are first to float
• May float:
  • Down to Med-Surg/Tele
  • Up to ICU for ACU-level patients only
• No CVICU floating

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling allowed
• Block scheduling considered based on unit needs (not guaranteed)

Weekend/Holiday

• Every Other Weekend
• Holiday rotation based on unit needs
