Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Haskell Indian Health Center
Facility: Haskell Indian Health Center
Location: Lawrence, Kansas
Facility Type: Federal Indian Health Service (IHS) Ambulatory Care Clinic / Outpatient Health Center serving Native American and Alaska Native populations. The center provides primary care, pediatrics, women's health, behavioral health, laboratory, pharmacy, and other outpatient services.
Position Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care and nursing support in an outpatient ambulatory care setting. The LPN works collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality healthcare services to patients while promoting health education and disease prevention.
License and Certification:

Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, chief complaints, and health assessments.
- Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Administer prescribed medications, including oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications as permitted by scope of practice.
- Monitor patients for therapeutic responses and adverse reactions and report significant findings to providers.
- Perform nursing procedures such as wound care, dressing changes, catheter care, specimen collection, blood glucose monitoring, and other clinical treatments.
- Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient education.
- Collect, label, and process laboratory specimens.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) documentation.
- Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, and continuity of care.
- Provide health education related to medications, chronic disease management, preventive care, and wellness programs.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, HIPAA, and IHS policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
