Location: Summa Health – Akron Campus, Akron, OH
Department: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Assignment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Duration: July 5, 2026 – October 3, 2026
Shift: Day Shift | 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3x12s)

Position Summary
Summa Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for its Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures and anesthesia while utilizing evidence-based practice, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have strong post-operative recovery experience, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess patients during the immediate post-anesthesia recovery period.
- Identify and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed.
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and multidisciplinary care teams.
- Perform patient assessments and maintain accurate clinical documentation in Epic EMR.
- Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care and recovery.
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety protocols.
- Assist with IV starts, blood draws, and specimen collection as needed.
- Ensure continuity of care throughout the recovery process.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program approved by either:
- Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or
- Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
Licensure
- Active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) License
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience
- Recent Epic EMR experience within the last 12 months (must be clearly documented on the resume)
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong post-anesthesia patient management experience
- Experience in a high-volume surgical recovery environment
- Additional specialty certifications such as PALS or NIH Stroke Scale
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, and assist patients as required.
- Prolonged standing and walking throughout shifts.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination necessary for patient care procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and potentially stressful clinical environment.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and other clinical hazards.
Schedule & Additional Information
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- No weekends required
- No on-call requirements
- Maximum of 7 days Requested Time Off (RTO) permitted during the assignment
- Candidates exceeding 7 days of RTO will not be considered
