Registered Nurse – Med/Surg

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Night (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients during assigned shifts using the nursing process and current nursing practices.
• Perform initial patient assessments upon admission and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement, modify, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care procedures.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care to support interdisciplinary communication.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
• Delegate tasks to healthcare team members and validate completion throughout the shift.
• Administer medications following the "5 Rights": right patient, medication, route, dose, and time.
• Prioritize patient safety measures including fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation protocols, and safe ambulation.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and requests, ensuring effective triage and care.
• Use critical thinking and nursing judgment to monitor patient status and act on changes.
• Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care and facilitate timely admissions, discharges, and testing.
• Maintain a positive attitude to promote a healthy work and healing environment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Minimum of 3 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Trauma nursing experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Education

• Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
