Job Summary:
The Clinical Educator for Maternal Child Health is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the orientation process for all new MCH employees as well as the continuing education for established staff. This position will work collaboratively with Unit leadership to follow the scope of practice for Nursing Professional Development and other nursing governing bodies that apply to Maternal Child Health (AWONN, ACOG, NNA, AORN). This position will assume full responsibility as a registered nurse on MCH and will be expected to do so in times of high census or inadequate staffing as directed by MCH Director.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee orientation process including the planning and evaluation of all new MCH employees and provide written updates at 30day and 60day intervals in preparation for 90 day introductory evaluation.
- Maintain educational documentation and checklists on all MCH employees in preparation for Joint Commission/DOH surveys.
- Educate and update staff on policy changes, new equipment, and process changes within the department and the organization through development of educational materials and references.
- Provide and or coordinate annual NRP, and ACLS for MCH staff.
- Coordinate annual unit skills day and associated documentation of staff participation.
- Coordinate drills by identifying high risk procedures/topics in conjunction with charge RN’s/team leaders to be performed at various times and shifts in attempt to reach majority of staff.
- Point person for new products, equipment, processes, troubleshooting and problems, recalls, etc.
- Interface with bioengineering for equipment problems (fetal monitors, VS3, epidural pumps, isolettes, breast pumps, etc.)
- Interface for new equipment implementation with biomed or IS new IT implementation or trial process (ie. Impravata)
- Actively works to maintail skills in all of the MCH areas by filling in on the floor when busy or short staffed.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in MCH nursing, Core II in all areas of the Department. Strong written and oral communication and computer skills.
- Licensure: Current NYS RN license.
- Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of the computer keyboard) light lifting in regards to patient care. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to office work or patient care tasks. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.
