Job Summary
Kona Community Hospital is seeking three highly adaptable, seasoned Ambulatory Clinic RNs to support an outpatient rural health center platform on the Big Island of Hawaii. This role is tailored for an expert clinician who thrives in a resource-limited rural health landscape. Beyond delivering comprehensive outpatient case management, triage, and preventative screening services, the selected travelers will serve as clinical anchors—providing vital education, leadership, and peer mentorship to the permanent clinic nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Rural Ambulatory Care Delivery: Manage daily outpatient clinic flows, coordinating preventative health screenings, chronic disease management protocols, and minor in-office diagnostic procedures.
- Clinical Mentorship & Staff Leadership: Act as an on-the-floor clinical resource, providing proactive education, skill validation, and mentorship to fellow nursing team members to elevate the facility's baseline standard of care.
- Ambulatory Telephone Triage: Execute sharp, evidence-based telephone triage, utilizing clinical algorithms to safely differentiate benign symptoms from acute medical emergencies requiring higher-tier escalation.
- Patient & Family Education: Deliver comprehensive counseling on complex medication regimens, post-discharge instructions, chronic disease zoning (e.g., diabetes, hypertension), and local community resource mapping.
- Interdisciplinary Care Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with primary care providers, community health workers, and external metropolitan specialists to bridge systemic gaps in rural healthcare access.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience Profile: 3+ years of hospital-affiliated outpatient clinic, primary care, or community health nursing. Prior experience navigating the specific socioeconomic and logistical challenges of a rural health clinic environment is highly preferred.
- Core Certifications (Must be active at submission):
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- AHA PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Note: The system requisition automatically generates an exhaustive list of national nursing certifications; however, active BLS, ACLS, and PALS represent the core requirements for general multi-demographic ambulatory tracking.
Unit & Facility Details
- Department Setting: Outpatient Ambulatory Specialty / Rural Health Center Network.
- Facility Scale: Mid-sized regional acute care and community health network (50–149 beds).
