Job Title: Travel PCU / Med-Surg Float Registered Nurse – Nights
Job Description: Are you a resilient, highly adaptable nurse who thrives in fast-paced environments? Malone Healthcare is seeking a top-tier Progressive Care (PCU) and Medical-Surgical Float RN for a 13-week contract at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital—the flagship 703-bed Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
This premium position offers standard 3x12 night shifts with the exclusive option to lock in a 4x12 (48-hour) weekly schedule by request. Because you will support a dynamic hospital-wide float pool, you will face excellent clinical variety, rotating across high-acuity stepdown, cardiovascular, and foundational medical floors.
Position Highlights:
- Location: Roanoke, VA
- Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (Level I Trauma & Magnet Designated)
- Specialty: PCU / Stepdown / Med-Surg Hybrid Float
- Shift: 12-Hour Nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours: 36 hours per week guaranteed (48-hour options available upon application)
- Duration: 13 weeks
Float Pool Dynamics & Ratios:
- Adaptive Staffing: Staffing levels are audited every 4 hours. Travelers must be comfortable shifting units 2–3 times per shift based on urgent hospital demands.
- Floor Ratios: PCU averages 5:1; Med-Surg averages 6:1 (Unit grids can dynamically flex up to 7:1 depending on emergency trauma volume).
- EMR Platform: 100% Epic documentation (Prior Epic charting experience is strictly required).
Position Requirements:
- Experience: Open to First-Time Travel Nurses with a strong background in telemetry, intermediate care (IMC/DOU), or multi-system med-surg settings.
- Licensure: Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand (Pending single-state non-compact licenses may be considered).
- Certifications: Active AHA BLS and AHA ACLS are mandatory.
- Clinical Skill Set: Independent competency in dysrhythmia interpretation, cardiac drip titration, pre/post-cath tracking, Central Line/Trach management, CPAP/BiPAP settings, and Emerson/PleurEvac chest tubes.
Schedule & Contract Terms:
- Weekends/Holidays: Expect 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block and 1 holiday commitment per contract.
- Low Census Terms: The facility call-off policy allows for up to 1 canceled shift per 2-week period. All Requested Time Off (RTO) must be submitted upfront.
