Shift Notes
All shifts - 1330-0200, 1530-0400 & 1930-0800, weekends as needed, first to float

- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule.
Emergency Department Overview
- Unit: Emergency Department (ER)
- Volume: Approximately 170 patients per day
- Beds: 45 total beds
- 4 hallway beds
- 4 vertical care rooms
- 1 trauma bay
- 1 resuscitation bay
- 1 cardiac room
- Fast Track: Vertical space and rapid assessment process
- Triage: Separate triage area (travelers do not perform triage)
- ER Holds: Intermixed with ER patients
- Psych Rooms: 4 dedicated psych rooms with 1:1 sitter coverage
- Security: In-house 24/7 and located within the ER
Designations
- Trauma Level IV (currently accepting Level III trauma patients while pursuing Level III designation)
- STEMI Level I
- Stroke Level II
Patient Population
- Adults and Pediatrics
- High-acuity emergency department with frequent ESI Level I patients
- Common presentations:
- Stroke
- STEMI
- Trauma
- Abdominal pain
- Pediatric patients are stabilized and transferred when necessary
Staffing & Ratios
- RN:Patient Ratio: 1:4–5
- Charge Nurse: Yes, without patient assignment
- Additional leadership support:
- Assistant Nurse Manager
- Administrative Supervisor
- Providers:
- Minimum of 1 physician and 1 APP
- Up to 6 providers on shift
Support Staff
- CNA ratio approximately 1:5–9 patients
- CNAs perform:
- EKGs
- Phlebotomy
- Wound care (excluding irrigation)
- Providers perform splinting
- Patient sitters available
- Respiratory Therapy in ER 24/7
- Performs ABGs and breathing treatments
- Manages respiratory equipment
Monitoring & Diagnostics
- RNs responsible for cardiac rhythm interpretation
- SpaceLabs cardiac monitors
- CT and X-ray available in the ER
- Overflow imaging performed in main radiology department
- Transport generally provided unless patient is critical
Lab Draws
- Labs may be drawn by:
- RNs
- CNAs
- Phlebotomy
Common Drips
- Nicardipine
- Propofol
- Fentanyl
- Norepinephrine
- Nitroglycerin
- Versed (Midazolam)
- Precedex (Dexmedetomidine)
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- TNCC
- PALS
- ENPC
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2.5 years Emergency Department experience
- Must come from a larger urban hospital setting
- Trauma experience preferred
Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts with varied start times:
- 0730–2000
- 1000–2230
- 1130–0000
- 1330–0200
- 1530–0400
- 1930–0800
- No block scheduling
- Staff scheduled according to department needs
- No late-to-early turnaround scheduling
Weekend/Holiday Requirements
- 4 weekend days every 6 weeks (2 full weekends)
- Holidays as needed
Call & Floating
- No call or standby requirements
- Rare floating to Boise Medical Center or Nampa Medical Center ERs
Orientation
- Hospital orientation
- Epic orientation
- 1 department-specific shift on the unit
Dress Code
- No specific scrub color
- Must be clean and professional
