Unit Overview
- 24-bed Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Trauma Level: 2
- Charting System: EPIC
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:3–4, depending on patient acuity
- High-throughput environment with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
Patient Population
The unit manages a diverse, moderately high-acuity patient population, including:
- Dysrhythmias/cardiac monitoring patients
- Cardiopulmonary conditions
- Sepsis patients
- Patients requiring high-flow oxygen therapy
- Behavioral health patients requiring IV medication management
Common IV Drips
Nurses are expected to manage a variety of titratable and non-titratable drips, including:
- Dopamine
- Levophed (norepinephrine)
- Cardizem (diltiazem)
- Heparin
- Precedex (dexmedetomidine)
- Nitroglycerin
- Amiodarone
- Dobutamine
- Nicardipine
Unit Strengths
- Dedicated unit educator who works closely with staff
- Exposure to cardiac, respiratory, and sepsis patients
- Strong opportunity to develop step-down and critical-care-adjacent skills
- Experience with vasoactive medications and complex patient monitoring
Scheduling Expectations
