  • Manage patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and renal conditions.
  • Monitor and care for patients with chest tubes, central lines, wound vacs, and other specialized equipment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge needs.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to changes in patient condition.
  • Advocate for patient safety and quality outcomes.

Staffing & Support

Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Nights: 1:5–6

Support staff includes:

  • Telemetry technicians
  • Patient Care Assistants (PCAs)
  • Dedicated phlebotomy services
  • Charge nurses

Staffing ratios may vary based on patient acuity and hospital census.

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (state license or compact license)
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • Successful completion of Dysrhythmia Exam (study guide available)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PCCN or CCRN certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a clinically strong nurse who is comfortable caring for moderately high-acuity patients and can effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities in a busy unit.
