Registered Nurse – Surgical Services

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Services team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive perioperative patient care, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, high-quality surgical outcomes. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in maintaining a safe surgical environment throughout the perioperative process.

Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative nursing care.
• Perform patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Administer medications safely in accordance with state regulations and facility policies.
• Coordinate patient care and serve as a liaison between departments throughout the surgical experience.
• Advocate for patient safety and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Monitor and maintain sterile technique and adherence to infection prevention standards.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, and transport.
• Support anesthesia providers during induction and emergence.
• Anticipate surgical team needs, prepare equipment and supplies, and maintain accurate documentation.
• Assist with procedures including Foley catheter insertion, IV starts, patient prepping, and other perioperative tasks.
• Monitor the operating room environment to ensure compliance with aseptic standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, surgical technologists, and ancillary staff to deliver exceptional patient care.
• Provide patient and family education, including discharge instructions and post-procedure care guidance.
• Reprocess endoscopic equipment when assigned to the Endoscopy team.

Qualifications

Required

• Active RN license in the applicable state or Compact RN License.
• Current BLS certification.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Preferred

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• CNOR certification.
• SGNA certification.
• ACLS and/or PALS certification.
• Completion of an OR internship program.
• Previous Operating Room or Critical Care experience.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced surgical setting with varying patient acuity levels.
• Exposure to surgical equipment, body fluids, bloodborne pathogens, and infectious materials.
• Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and patient movement.
• May experience high workloads, interruptions, bright lights, and elevated noise levels.
• Adherence to all infection prevention and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory.
