Description
Registered Nurse – PCU/Oncology
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a 35-bed medical and radiation oncology unit specializing in oncology and hematology patients.
- Unit cares for mixed acuity patients including Med Surg and Advanced Care.
- Patient care includes blood products, chemotherapy, drips, PCAs, wounds, and more.
- Targeted patient ratios are typically 1:4, but can be up to 1:5-6.
- No block scheduling; night shift (3x12 hours) from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
- Option for 36 or 48 hours per week; 18 or 20 week contracts also available.
- Must float to all Stepdown/Advanced Care units, including high-risk respiratory/COVID units.
- Floating may include multiple campuses within 15 miles radius.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience within the last year.
- Oncology experience.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Ohio RN license (primary source verification required).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certification only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA certification only.
- Must be able to pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year or complete remediation attempts as required.
- NIH Stroke Certification required unless working in Oncology, Infusion, or certain other excluded units.
- Respiratory protection medical clearance and fit testing (N95 or PAPR) prior to working on certain units.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Must complete a 7-year criminal background check and other standard background screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana within 12 months prior to start.
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases.
- Annual health questionnaire and flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
- Proof of immunizations or immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray required; annual TB questionnaire if past positive.
- Must submit 2 professional references within 2 years (1 must be a manager/supervisor/charge nurse).
- Skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years prior to start.
- Must submit completed medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation.
Work Environment & Uniform
- Navy blue scrubs required.
- Unit includes care for chemotherapy and blood product patients; RNs with ONS certification administer chemotherapy.
Notes
- The agency reserves the right to cancel shifts due to low census with notice.
- Agreement may be canceled with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
- Request time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer.
This position is ideal for RNs with oncology and PCU/Stepdown experience seeking a travel contract in Ohio with a focus on oncology patient care and flexibility in floating across advanced care units.
