Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Location: Chester County, Pennsylvania
Unit: Level III NICU
Schedule: 3 12-hour Nights 36hrs/wk 
Contract Length: 13 weeks (Travel Assignment)

Position Overview

Join the only Level III NICU in Chester County, providing advanced neonatal care to premature and critically ill newborns. The unit is staffed by neonatal specialists 24/7 and features state-of-the-art technology and equipment.

The NICU has 14 licensed beds with capacity to accommodate up to 20 infants and is supported by approximately 50 experienced NICU nurses. The multidisciplinary care team includes Physical Therapists, Nutritionists, Speech Therapists, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, and Neonatologists.

This unit cares for neonates as young as 22 weeks gestation and does not treat surgical neonatal patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a Level III NICU.
• Monitor and manage patients requiring:
  • CPAP
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • UVC/UAC line management
  • Advanced respiratory support
• Participate in high-risk deliveries and provide neonatal support in Labor & Delivery as needed.
• Deliver family-centered and developmentally appropriate care.
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Perform thorough assessments, documentation, and communication regarding patient status.
• Educate and support parents and families throughout the NICU stay.
• Float to Pediatric or Maternity units as needed, caring exclusively for newborn patients.

Qualifications

Required

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum of 2–3 years of recent Level III NICU experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
• Proficiency with neonatal critical care equipment and procedures.

Schedule Requirements

• Three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Every third weekend required (additional weekends may be available if desired).
• Every other holiday required.
• No routine on-call responsibilities.

Standby Policy

In periods of low census, staff may be placed on standby. Nurses must be available to report to work within one hour if called in.
